Welcome to the Art Studio with Mrs. Peck! In fourth grade, color relationships and value are emphasized. Students identify and apply the elements of art and principles of design to artworks. Emphasis will be placed on the ability of students to value their own emerging style. Fourth graders will learn about art history and culture. In fifth grade, craftsmanship and techniques are emphasized. Students study and apply the elements of art and the principles of design to their own work. Fifth graders will continue to learn to value and respect their own artwork and the work of others. Students will analyze and critique works of historic and contemporary art to enhance their appreciation and understanding of art and culture.
Art Studio Policies! Grading: Art studio grades are made up of a daily participation grade and a project grade. The participation grade each day is based on the following: come in quietly, listen attentively, give your best effort, clean up your mess, and line up quietly. Projects are graded on discussion, process/techniques, craftsmanship, and effort. All objectives for projects are aligned with Common Core, Illinois State, or National Visual Art Standards. A rubric is given out for each project. Extra Credit: Students may write a one-page essay on an artist of their choice. The article/website must be sited and the essay must be in the students’ own words. Essays should be typed and using complete sentences. By attending an art museum or gallery students can also gain extra credit.
